The International Crimes Tribunal has fixed Mar 4 for delivering its verdict in a crimes against humanity case over killings during the July Uprising in Dhaka's Rampura.
Five people, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman, are facing charges in connection with the killing of two people and the injury of another.
The date was set on Sunday by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1, Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said.
Among the accused, former assistant sub-inspector Chanchal Chandra Sarkar of the Rampura Police Outpost has been arrested and is currently in jail.
Former DMP chief Habibur, former additional deputy commissioner of Khilgaon Zone Md Rashedul Islam, former Rampura Police Station chief Md Mashiur Rahman and former sub-inspector Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan are absconding.
On Feb 3, both the prosecution and the defence concluded their closing arguments. Defence lawyer Sarwar Jahan Nippon sought acquittal for Chanchal.
The prosecution, however, argued that the involvement of all five accused had been clearly established through witness testimony, video footage, eyewitness accounts and documentary evidence, and sought the maximum punishment.
After hearing both sides, the tribunal had set Feb 15 to fix a date for the verdict.
Tribunal-1 framed charges against the five accused on Sept 18, 2025, formally opening the trial.
The prosecution had submitted formal charges on Aug 7 last year.
According to the case statement, on July 19, 2024, a young man named Amir Hossain climbed onto an under-construction building along the Banasree–Meradia road in Rampura while trying to escape violence during the uprising. Police allegedly followed him.
While hanging from iron rods at the edge of the roof, he was shot six times by a police officer and was left critically injured, prosecutors said.
On the same day, Nadeem and Maya Islam were killed in police firing in the Banasree area.
