The interim government will see to all that is needed for the proper medical treatment of those injured in a road crash that left 10 people dead in Chattogram’s Lohagara, says Bir Protik Faruk E Azam, the Liberation War affairs advisor.

Faruk, alongside Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain, visited the injured at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

“Everything will proceed according to doctors’ advice. If we need to transfer [the injured] to someplace else for better treatment, it’ll be done following the counsel of doctors. I thank the doctors here as they’ve provided intensive care to the wounded since yesterday,” he said.

The government would also take responsibility for anyone needing treatment abroad, he added, offering condolences to the grieving families of the dead.

On Wednesday morning, a Relax Paribahan bus swerved out of control and slammed into an oncoming microbus, killing seven individuals on the spot in the hilly roads of Chunatia Jangalia.

Two married couples were among the dead. Aradhya Biswas, the 6-year-old daughter of deceased couple Dilip Biswap and Sadhana Mondal, is under hospital care.

Shahadat said, “Both the parents of Aradhya have died. This is heartbreaking. Her condition is gradually improving, but she’s not yet out of danger. The doctors are trying their best. All tests and medicines are being provided by the hospital.”

Wednesday’s crash was the third serious accident in the Jangalia area in three days. Five people were killed in an accident on Monday, which was Eid day. On Tuesday, two microbuses veered off the road and overturned into a ditch, injuring 12.

Sadhana’s nephew Durjay Mondal, 18, is also being treated at the hospital.

Prema, the 20-year-old daughter of the other deceased couple - Rafiqul Islam and Lutfun Nahar Sumi - has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital.
