A low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the weather department to issue local warning signal No. 3 at the country’s four maritime ports.
The system is expected to bring rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds across Bangladesh through Sunday, with moderate to heavy rain possible in places.
Rain is likely to be more frequent in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram.
Over the next 24 hours from 6pm Wednesday, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds may sweep parts of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram, and some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet. Some areas may see moderate to heavy downpours.
Day and night temperatures may fall slightly nationwide.
The same pattern is expected from Aug 14 to 16.
Meteorologist Shahinul Islam told bdnews24.com: “Moderate to heavy rain may occur across the country. However, rainfall will be more frequent in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram.”
