Ainul Haque, the BNP candidate for the Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj–Tarash) constituency in the upcoming parliamentary polls, has been hospitalised in Dhaka for heart treatment.

He underwent a procedure at Evercare Hospital on Thursday in which two stents were inserted into his heart, according to Khandaker Selim Jahangir, former chief of the BNP's Tarash Upazila unit.

Ainul had been admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after experiencing heart-related complications.

Jahangir said that the candidate had a long-standing heart condition and would need to remain in hospital for several days before continuing his recovery at home.

Despite his absence from the campaign trail, party leaders and activists are continuing election activities in the constituency.

Four candidates are vying for the Sirajganj-3 seat, including nominees from Khelafat Majlis, the Jatiya Party and an independent contender.
