Rain forecast in four divisions as rivers rise but remain below danger level

Most rivers in Bangladesh are rising but remain below danger levels, with moderate to heavy rain on the cards across four divisions.

The Khowai River in Habiganj may rise at some points over the next 24 hours, temporarily flooding nearby low-lying areas, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said on Saturday.

Moderate to moderately heavy rain is likely on Sunday in Sylhet, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Chattogram divisions and nearby upstream areas, it said.

In Sylhet, water levels in the Manu, Khowai and Dhalai rivers rose over the past 24 hours and may continue rising on Sunday.

Water levels may start falling from Monday.

In the northeast, the Kushiara River also rose over the past 24 hours, while the Surma fell. Both rivers may rise over the next two days before stabilising on the third day, FFWC said.

Water levels in the Brahmaputra-Jamuna basin rose over the past 24 hours and may climb further on Sunday. They could fall on the second and third days before stabilising on the fourth and fifth, while remaining below danger levels.

The Ganges also rose, while the Padma remained stable. Both may rise over the next five days but are expected to stay below danger levels.

In Chattogram, the Gomti, Muhuri, Selonia and Feni fell over the past 24 hours and remained below danger levels. They may rise on Sunday before stabilising over the following two days.
