Four sea ports in Bangladesh have been asked to maintain Cautionary Signal No. 3 due to a developing low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), in a bulletin, told Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports to hoist the signal.
The advisory says squally weather could affect the seaports, the north Bay and adjoining coastal areas under the influence of the low-pressure system.
Fishing boats and trawlers have been advised to remain close to the coast and move with caution.
Omar Faruq told bdnews24.com on Wednesday that the warning would remain in force for the next 24 hours, adding that vessels should stay alert in the Bay the following day as well.
He also said rainfall is likely to increase once the gusty winds subside.
