A woman among eight people has been injured in an explosion linked to a gas cylinder leak in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.
The incident occurred around 2pm on Humayun Road on Monday.
Mohammadpur Police chief Mezbah Uddin said the explosion was believed to have been caused by a gas leak from a cylinder used in a street shop.
The injured have been identified as Tarek Rahman, 23, Md Mona, 40, Rehana Badal, 23, Md Jony, 35, Md Akash, 25, Md Azad, 55, Irfan, 18 and Miraj, 36, identified with single names.
Police could not immediately confirm whether the victims are garage employees or pedestrians.
The victims were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 4pm.
Assistant Professor Shawon Bin Rahman of the institute said Tarek suffered 20 percent burns, while Irfan 16 percent.
They have been admitted to the hospital.
Md Mona suffered 12 percent burns, while others sustained minor burns of 1 to 3 percent and were discharged after receiving primary treatment.
