The government has formed investigation committees after several students reportedly fell ill after consuming food under the school feeding programme in Chapainawabganj and Madaripur.

The primary and mass education ministry disclosed the development in a media statement issued on Sunday night.

“Swift and stringent action will be taken against those found responsible,” the ministry said.

In Madaripur, the deputy commissioner has formed a five-member inquiry committee.

Project authorities have also issued a show-cause notice to the food supplier, asking why its contract should not be cancelled.

Meanwhile, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has directed authorities in Chapainawabganj to form a separate investigation committee, including the civil surgeon.

The ministry said the district primary education officer in Chapainawabganj has already investigated the incident and submitted a report.

A show-cause notice will also be served promptly on the supplier, it added.
