A woman and her 1-year-old daughter have died after a fire ripped through their home in Natore’s Gurudaspur.

The blaze broke out around 4am on Monday in Jhaupara, according to Gurudaspur Fire Station official Md Ataur Rahman.

The victims were identified as Atiya Khatun, 30, wife of local resident Jhantu Pramanik, and her daughter Rowja Khatun.

Ataur said the fire was initially believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit. By the time firefighters reached the spot, the house had already been reduced to ashes.

He added that the charred bodies were later recovered and handed over to Gurudaspur Police Station.

The fire official estimated the financial loss caused by the blaze at between Tk 500,000 and Tk 600,000.
