Mohammad Arshadur Rouf, serving as additional attorney general, has been entrusted with the additional responsibilities of the attorney general.

The law ministry announced it on Thursday, saying President Mohammed Shahabuddin approved Rouf’s additional charge, effective immediately.

This follows the resignation of Mohammad Asaduzzaman from the role.

Asaduzzaman submitted his leave letter to the Attorney General’s Office on Dec 27 to run for parliament from Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) as a BNP candidate. He has already collected his nomination papers from Shailkupa.

Asaduzzaman, a senior Supreme Court lawyer and former BNP human rights secretary, took on the top legal post of the country on Aug 8, days after the Awami League government was toppled in the July Uprising.
