Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has transferred his voter registration from the Grameen Bank Complex in Mirpur to his residence in Gulshan-2, updating the address on his National ID card.

Officials at the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat said that due to this change, Yunus will cast his vote in the parliamentary polls next February at a designated polling centre in Gulshan.

Yunus is now listed under Ward 19 of Dhaka North City Corporation.

Although the transfer was completed in February, it came to light on Sunday, eight months later.

Ahead of the national election, the EC began door-to-door voter list updates on Jan 20, adding new voters, removing names of those dead, and accepting applications for address transfers.

According to EC officials, Yunus submitted his transfer application to the Gulshan Upazila/Thana office in February. The EC’s NID Wing Director General approved it on Feb 17, and the change was updated the following day.

Citizens are registered to vote based on their current address and can cast their ballot only at the polling centre corresponding to that location.

EC’s Public Relations Director Ruhul Amin Mallik said: “Voter area transfer is an ongoing process. Applicants must fill out Form-13 by hand, attach necessary documents, and submit it to the election office. After verification and NID Wing approval, the voter’s address is updated accordingly.”
