Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin has said he will return to his professional career immediately after a new government is formed through the parliamentary election.

At the same time, he urged people to “forget and forgive” him.

Speaking at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Bashir said: “God willing, as soon as the new government is formed, I will return to my working life.

“I want to remain forgotten. I had never come to the media before. Once again, through you, I want to make a humble request -- my final request -- that you please forget me.”

Reflecting on his role after assuming office as an advisor, he said he had little prior experience in government, but made every effort to fulfil his responsibilities.

“When I joined the government, I did not have much experience. But I left no stone unturned.

“By God’s mercy, I tried to work honestly,” he said.

Bashir also said the government had moved towards an inclusive economic policy by bringing together both small-scale farmers and large entrepreneurs.

“The core objective of this policy was to move forward together without excluding anyone,” he said.

He expressed hope that his successors would continue to work in the same spirit and maintain the same policy continuity in the future.
