There may be a delay in the counting of votes for the Feb 12 general election and referendum, says Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief advisor.

He made the remarks at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Wednesday.

Shafiqul said, "This year, there is a referendum vote along with the general election. There are also postal ballots. Due to this, there may be some delay in counting votes. Please inform the general public in advance so that rumours do not spread about this."

Recent vote counting in student council elections at some public universities across the country have taken a long time, sparking discussions among the public.

The counting of votes at Jahangirnagar University has gone on for a week. Under the circumstances, there has been some discussion of how long the counting of ballots cast on Feb 12 will take.
