A branch of Grameen Bank in Magura’s Mohammadpur Upazila has reportedly been hit by an arson attack.
Unidentified attackers allegedly poured petrol through a window and set fire to the bank, located next to the Aminur Rahman Degree College, around 3:30am on Tuesday, according to Sohana Sultana, the branch manager.
Firefighters later arrived and doused the flames.
"Assailants set fire to the Grameen Bank branch in Magura’s Mohammadpur. Essential documents and furniture in the bank were burnt," said Billal Mridha, station master of Mohammadpur Fire Service.
"The incident has been reported to the local administration and further action will be taken on instructions from senior officials."
Mohammadpur Police Station chief Abdur Rahman said that police went to the scene after being alerted to the incident.
"The full extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained. It will be determined after an investigation," he added.
Legal action is being initiated over the incident, according to police.
