A suspected drug dealer has been snatched from police custody after attackers assaulted two police officers during an anti-narcotics raid in Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha Upazila.

Hatibandha Police chief Ramzan Ali said the incident took place in Middle Singimari on Thursday afternoon.

The injured officers are Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ayub Ali and Rafiqul Islam of the station. They received primary treatment at a local hospital.

Police and locals said a team conducted the anti-drug operation in Middle Singimari village following a tip-off.

During the drive, police detained a suspected drug trader, whose associates allegedly launched a sudden attack on police with locally made weapons.

The officers were injured in the attack and the handcuffed suspect was snatched away by the attackers.

Police have withheld the suspect's identity to facilitate ongoing efforts to re-arrest him.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, officer Ramzan said: “Two of our officers were injured in the attack by drug traders. Those involved in the attack, including the snatched suspect, have been identified.

“Extensive drives are under way in the area to arrest them. They will soon be brought under the law.”

He also said preparations were under way to file a case over the incident.
