Chhatra League leaders have installed the Awami League’s signboard at its North District office near the New Market intersection in Chattogram city.
On Monday afternoon, former joint secretary of North District Chhatra League Shawkat ul Anam and former central Chhatra League leader Kazi Suruj affixed the signboard.
Several other leaders and activists were also in the building at the time.
Shawkat said, “We have removed the signboard that was put up as the office of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Chattogram Metropolitan City and installed the signboard of the North District Awami League.
“We removed the lock on the door and entered. We did not find any chairs, tables, microphones, IPS, cupboards, or files that were in our office before.
“Even the pictures of the late national leaders are not there. We have locked the office again.”
A video circulating on social media shows two men putting up stickers with the slogans “Joy Bangla” and “Chattogram North District Awami League” on the entrance of the office.
On Oct 21 last year, a group of youths vandalised and locked the North District Awami League office on the building’s fourth floor.
A video from the incident shows damage to a picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with NCP Chattogram Joint Coordinator Arif Moinuddin visible.
At the time, Arif told bdnews24.com they had gone there after receiving information about alleged activities by members of the Chhatra League, which is banned, and Awami League, also banned from all political activities.
He said they broke the lock, found the office tidy, and later locked it again.
The office was vandalised after the Awami League government fell on Aug 5, 2024.
