A Dhaka court has once again rejected the bail plea of Dhaka University law professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act following a “mob” attack at a Mancha 71 programme.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah on Wednesday also turned down the bail petition of another accused, Md Abdullah Al Amin.
Lawyers Nilanjana Rifat and Khandaker Nur Kutubul Alam argued for Karzon and Al Amin. Their bail was previously denied on Aug 31 by Magistrate Mehera Mahbub.
On Aug 28, police detained former minister Abdul Latif Siddique, journalist Monjurul Alam Panna, Karzon, Al Amin and 13 others from a Dhaka Reporters Unity event.
The next day, Shahbagh Police showed them arrested in the anti-terror case and sent them to jail.
