PBI to probe attack case linked to lawyer Alif killing

Court changes the investigating agency after complainant raises concerns over probe progress

A Chattogram court has handed the investigation of a case involving an attack on lawyers, filed by the brother of murdered lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique passed the order on Wednesday following a petition from the plaintiff.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police had previously handled the case, but the court has now redirected the investigation to the PBI.

Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, plaintiff’s counsel and assistant public prosecutor at the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, told bdnews24.com the petitioner moved for a change in the investigating officer, citing prolonged delay in progress and concerns over the investigation process.

He added that a hearing was scheduled in the presence of the previous investigating officer, after which the court approved the application and directed PBI to conduct a proper investigation.
