Court grants bail to content creator Nasim after ‘misinformation targeting’ Chief Whip Moni

A Dhaka court has granted bail to content creator AM Hasan Nasim in a case filed on charges of spreading misleading information about Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order after hearing his bail application on Tuesday, said Prosecution Police Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain.

The bail will last until the next hearing in the case filed at Gulshan Police Station.

Nasim was arrested in West Agargaon around 8pm on Friday. He was sent to jail the next day.

A man identifying himself as Nurul Islam filed the case under the Cyber Security Ordinance-2025.

According to the case dossier, a post was made on Facebook about the chief whip.

From that Facebook ID, “misleading information” was published and circulated at different times, it reads, adding that the suspect “blackmailed” the chief whip by sending screenshots to his WhatsApp number.

The development was discussed in the parliament on Monday, when Hasnat Abdullah, a National Citizen Party MP from Cumilla-4, criticised the arrest for “sharing” a cartoon.

In response, Chief Whip Moni requested that the arrestee be freed if booked over a cartoon involving him.
