Reshmi, the child shot by criminals in Chattogram, has died of her wounds

The 11-year-old girl had been shot in the eye when she went to buy betel leaves

The 11-year-old girl who was shot in the eye in the Raufabad area of Chattogram’s Bayezid Bostami Thana has succumbed to her wounds.

Reshmi Akter passed away around 9:45am on Thursday at the intensive care unit (ICU) at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

The child had been admitted to the ICU since Friday, said Brig Gen Taslim Uddin, the director of the hospital.

On Thursday night, Raju, a young man identified with a single name, was killed when unidentified assailants opened fire in Shaheed Minar Lane of Raufabad under Bayezid Bostami Police Station.

Reshmi, a local resident, had stepped out of the house to buy betel leaves and was shot in the left eye.

She was initially admitted to a private hospital in the port city before being transferred to Chittagong Medical.

Police have arrested six people in connection with the case filed by Raju’s mother over the shooting.
