Chattogram court hands death penalty to five for 2007 killing of student Fasiur Shaon

The court also clears 10 others, citing insufficient evidence

A Chattogram court has sentenced five people to death in connection with a murder of student Fasiur Rahman Shaon 19 years ago.

The verdict was delivered by Chittagong Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Ali Akkas.

The court has acquitted 10 others, citing insufficient evidence.

Md Rakib Uddin, the bench assistant of the court, told bdnews24.com that the judge also fined the convicts Tk 25,000 each.

The defendants sentenced to death are Belal Hossain, Zakir Hossain, Shahid Raja, Al Amin Gazi, and Md Sohel.

Of them, the first three are in prison, while the remaining two are absconding.

According to the case statement, Shaon left his home to go to a coaching centre at the city's GEC Circle on the afternoon of Jul 24, 2007.

Police recovered his body wrapped in a towel from Badshah Miah Road later that night.
