80 rural power cooperatives seek police security amid outages

Growing public anger over prolonged outages has led 80 rural power cooperatives to seek police protection.

The cooperatives cited attacks and vandalism at electricity facilities in different areas as power generation falls amid a fuel shortage.

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Association has written to the inspector general of police seeking stronger security at their grids, substations and offices.

The letter, signed by the association’s Office Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, was sent to the inspector general of police on Wednesday.

A rural electricity official confirmed to bdnews24.com that the letter had been sent.
