A Malaysian military officer has been taken into police custody for five days for questioning in connection with a road accident that killed a 22-year-old Bangladeshi national.

International news outlets reported on Friday that the identity of the suspect, a 31-year-old officer, has not been officially released.

The officer was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol when he drove into oncoming traffic on the Maju Expressway (MEX), according to the Singaporean English daily The Straits Times.

Kua Lulumpur-based Malay Mail, citing Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, reported that the incident occurred at approximately 5:38am on Apr 23.

A Ford Fiesta, helmed by the officer, reportedly veered into the wrong lane and struck a Perodua Alza e-hailing vehicle head-on, the report said.

The victim, identified as Muzahid Millad -- a well-known Bangladeshi gaming YouTuber -- was returning from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with his 20-year-old wife when the crash occurred, according to reports.

Millad, seated in the middle row, succumbed to massive head trauma at the scene.

His wife sustained various injuries and is currently being treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The 41-year-old driver of his car also suffered significant head injuries.

Within the suspect's vehicle, a 36-year-old local woman was injured alongside the officer himself, who sustained minor wounds.

A breathalyser test confirmed that the military officer’s blood-alcohol level was significantly above the legal threshold.

Malaysian national news agency Bernama reported the case is being processed, unusually for a road accident, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which deals with murder.
