Leaders of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) have said they are preparing a list of police officers over murders of students and citizens during the July Uprising.
The list will be submitted at the International Crimes Tribunal, the SAD leaders said, also sharing their plans of filing cases against the officers.
The announcements were made at a press conference held at Madhu’s Canteen in Dhaka University on Sunday evening.
“No delays this time—just as our brother Hadi said: no delays, action will be taken,” said Rifat Rashid, president, SAD.
The list will comprise police station chiefs, police superintendents, and commanding officers, he said. He added that his platform will pressure the law and home advisors to issue an indemnity ordinance, and this effort has already begun.
He placed three demands, including the two demands the SAD leaders made while blocking Shahbagh on Saturday night following the arrest of Mahdi Hasan, general secretary of the Habiganj district unit of the student group.
Mahdi was arrested after threatening a police officer by claiming his involvement in the torching of Baniachong Police Station and the burning of a sub-inspector during the July Uprising.
The demands are:
• the unconditional release of Mahdi and the withdrawal of the Habiganj police station chief,
• immunity through a presidential ordinance within the next 24 hours for actions by students, workers, and the public from Jul 1 to Aug 8 during the July Uprising,
• recognition and protection of all military, paramilitary, and civilian officials and personnel who played a key role in the July Uprising.
Mahdi was released on bail after arrest.
