Activists marking July Mass Uprising Day in Bagerhat have called on the government to immediately implement the July National Charter and bring ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh to stand trial.
On Wednesday, the district administration observed the day with a series of events.
The programme began at 8:30am with floral tributes at the July memorial beside the central Shaheed Minar in Bagerhat town.
The district administration was the first to lay wreaths at the memorial.
Political parties, educational institutions, government offices and members of the public later paid their respects to those killed in the July Uprising.
Saddam Hossain, an activist of Students Against Discrimination, said the BNP had come to power through the sacrifice of those killed in the Uprising.
“The people gave their mandate for the implementation of the July Charter, yet it has still not been implemented.
“We call on the government to immediately implement the July Charter and bring the killer Hasina back to the country to face trial.”
The district administration also organised a reception for families of those killed and injured in the 2024 movement, followed by a discussion meeting.
