A man has been killed and two others were injured after being attacked with sharp weapons while visiting a female acquaintance in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh.

The deceased was identified as Sifat Ullah, 27. The incident occurred on Sunday in the Adarshapara neighbourhood of Sabujbagh.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Assistant Commissioner Imranul Islam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Sabujbagh Zone said the murder occurred near a residence in the area.

"Initial investigations suggest the incident stems from a dispute over a romantic relationship," he said.

After Sifat arrived to meet the woman, another person showed up at the location. An argument broke out between them, escalating into a violent physical assault, the officer added.

Police have taken the woman and one of her female friends into custody for questioning. Operations are under way to arrest those directly involved in the attack.

Sifat hailed from Jatrabari. Family members said that Sifat ran a business in Qatar.
