A Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) truck has veered out of control and run over an elderly man in Chattogram city, killing him in the process.

The victim, 75-year-old Ranjit Karmakar, was a resident of Raja Pukur Lane. He was a craftsman at a gold shop in the city’s Hazari Goli.

Citing locals, police said the truck entered Raja Pukur Lane around 12:30pm on Thursday, where the road ends in a steep area.

According to police, around 100 people were gathered there, waiting for the truck. As it arrived, the crowd poured forward. At that moment, Ranjit was walking towards his workplace.

Locals said that before reaching the elevated end of the road, the truck began rolling down the slope in the opposite direction.

Amid the crowd’s rush, Ranjit fell and was crushed by the vehicle, according to witnesses.

Locals rescued him and rushed him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he died 30 minutes later.

Kotwali Police chief Abdul Karim said, “The truck was seized and the driver arrested. Legal action will be taken after the victim’s family makes a decision.”
