At least three people have been killed in separate road accidents in Trishal Upazila of Mymensingh.

In one accident, two people were killed in a head-on collision between an autorickshaw and a truck, while in the other, a pedestrian was killed after being run over by a vehicle.

The accidents occurred at Thakurbari intersection on Balipara Road in the Upazila on Monday morning, said Rezaul Karim, a sub-inspector at Trishal Police Station.

The dead include one man and two women. One of them was identified as Maria Begum, 25. Police were unable to immediately identify the others.

Police said the injured were receiving treatment at Trishal Upazila Health Complex and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

SI Rezaul said, “The auto-rickshaw was heading towards Trishal, while a truck was coming from the opposite direction towards Nandail. The two vehicles collided head-on at the Thakurbari intersection, killing two people on the spot.”

He said, “Their identities have not yet been confirmed. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been informed to help identify them. A PBI fingerprint team is on its way to the scene. More details will be available once the identities of the dead are confirmed.”

Meanwhile, pedestrian Maria Begum was killed in a hit-and-run by an unidentified vehicle while walking along the road. SI Rezaul said her body was at the morgue of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.
