26 arrested over teen’s killing at Geneva Camp

Shah Alam, 16, had gone to the area from Bosila to visit his grandmother

A Dhaka court has ordered the arrest of 26 individuals in connection with the death of Shah Alam, a teenager who was killed during a clash between two groups of drug dealers in the Geneva Camp area of Mohammadpur.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana issued the order after hearing an application from the investigating officer on Tuesday.

Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the information.

The suspects include Nasir Hossain Nashu, Faiyaz Hossain, Md Russell, Md Hira, Md Al Amin, Md Jamil, Md Faisal Hossain, Md Golam Rasul, Md Mostaq, Md Sayed Hossain, Md Shuvo, Md Rakib, Md Selim, Md Shawon, Md Masud Rana, Md Akash, Md Istiak, Md Rashed, Md Russell, Md Raj, Md Rajib, Md Bashir, Md Pappu, Shah Alam, Md Azad Hossain, and Faisal Hossain.

They were initially arrested under Section 54 on Aug 12 and sent to jail.

The investigating officer in the case, Sub-Inspector Md Mazharul Islam of Mohammadpur Police Station, subsequently requested their arrest in connection with Shah Alam’s murder.

Following the court hearing, the request was granted and the 26 individuals were sent to jail.

Two days after Shah Alam’s death, his father, Md Rubel, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station on Aug 13.

The complaint states that on Aug 11, different groups of drug dealers in the Geneva Camp area engaged in a clash.

Around 2:45pm, the groups fought using sticks and local weapons, and crude bombs were also reportedly thrown.

Shah Alam, 16, had gone to the Geneva Camp area from Bosila to visit his grandmother.

There, he was struck with a machete around 3pm.

He was later rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctor on duty.

The case filed by Shah Alam’s father names 31 individuals as suspects, in addition to 50 to 60 unknown persons.
