Bangladesh Railway has announced that bookings for Eid-ul-Azha train travel will begin on May 21, with tickets available for seven days leading up to the festival. All intercity train tickets will be sold exclusively online.

The date for Eid-ul-Azha is tentatively set for Jun 7 and the decision on ticketing was made accordingly, said Md Fahimul Islam, secretary of the Ministry of Railways, during a meeting on Monday at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka.

The meeting focused on preparations for road and rail transport ahead of the Eid holiday.

“Eid travel will begin on May 31, and ticket sales will start 10 days in advance,” said the secretary. Accordingly, tickets for May 31 will be sold on May 21, Jun 1 on May 22, Jun 2 on May 23, Jun 3 on May 24, Jun 4 on May 25, Jun 5 on May 26, and for Jun 6 on May 27.

Tickets for Jun 7 and 8 will be sold based on the moon sighting, the ministry added.

To manage traffic and ensure smoother booking, tickets for intercity trains in the western zone will go on sale at 8am, while eastern zone train tickets will be available from 2pm.

SPECIAL EID TRAINS AND CATTLE TRANSPORT

To accommodate the holiday rush, five pairs of special trains will run from Jun 4 to Jun 9 on the following routes:

-- Chattogram–Chandpur

-- Dhaka–Dewanganj

-- Bhairab Bazar–Kishoreganj

-- Mymensingh–Kishoreganj

-- Joydebpur–Parbatipur

Additionally, the Sholakia Special Train will run only on Eid day to transport worshippers to the large Eid congregation.

For the transportation of sacrificial animals before Eid, the railway will operate three special cattle trains from Dewanganj Bazar and Islampur to Dhaka on Jun 2, 3, and 4.
