The High Court has granted bail to Sk Tasnim Afroz Emi, former vice-president of Dhaka University's Shamsun Nahar Hall Students' Union, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the playing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic Mar 7 speech.
The order was passed on Thursday by a High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher.
Emi was detained on the night of Mar 7 while playing the speech outside Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.
The following day, on Mar 8, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana sent Emi and two others to jail after showing them arrested in the case.
Earlier that day, Asif Ahmed and a microphone operator had been detained by police while attempting to play the speech at the Chankharpul intersection.
In protest, Emi and several others launched a programme around 9:30pm, playing the speech from a rickshaw using a loudspeaker in front of Shahbagh Police Station.
Emi had previously contested for the vice-president post in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election as a candidate of the left-backed Protirodh Parishad panel.
