The government has appointed three BNP leaders as administrators for the Sirajganj, Chuadanga and Satkhira district councils.

The Local Government Division announced the decision on Thursday.

Saiful Islam has been appointed as the administrator for Sirajganj District Council, Md Sharifuzzaman for Chuadanga District Council and Habibul Islam Habib for Satkhira District Council.

According to an advisory, they will serve as full-time administrators until a new district council is formed or further orders are issued.

The appointees will carry out the duties and exercise the powers of district council chairmen in accordance with the law, and will receive salaries and allowances as per government rules.

The order takes immediate effect.

Saiful previously served on the BNP’s election management committee for Sirajganj-4 in the February election. Sharifuzzaman is the general secretary of the Chuadanga district BNP unit.

Habibul Islam Habib is secretary of the BNP central committee for publicity and publication and a former district unit president.

The BNP government first appointed 42 district council administrators on Mar 14 after assuming office on Feb 17, followed by another 15 appointments on Mar 31.

Following the fall of the Awami League government during the July Uprising, the interim administration appointed administrators to all district councils except the three hill districts on Aug 19, 2024.
