The prosecution has filed a formal complaint against former Army officer Ziaul Ahsan at the International Crimes Tribunal on charges of involvement in enforced disappearances and murder under the Awami League regime.

Prosecutor Shaikh Mahdi submitted the complaint to the International Crimes Tribunal's registrar on Wednesday morning.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim told bdnews24.com that the chargesheet is scheduled to be presented before the Tribunal-1 bench.

Maj gen Ziaul Ahsan was previously assigned as the director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC). He was dismissed on Aug 6 last year amid a series of high-level reshuffles in the Army following the political changeover. On Aug 16, the police announced his arrest.

He was initially shown arrested in a case filed by Dhaka's New Market Police Station on charges of killing hawker Shahjahan during the Students Against Discrimination protests. Later, the International Crimes Tribunal allowed him to be questioned in connection with the July Uprising murder case on Nov 12 last year.

The tribunal's chief prosecutor, Mohammad Tajul Islam, said that day: "“There is no end to the allegations against dismissed maj gen Ziaul Ahsan. He is involved in numerous murders and disappearances. Our investigation agency has already found evidence against him."
