A college student has been found dead inside her rented home in Jamalpur after police were alerted to a foul smell coming from the property.
The body of Ishrat Jahan Rima was recovered from a room in the Swapnopuri residential area of South Kacharipara in Jamalpur city on Friday night, said Md Nazmul Jannat Shah, inspector (investigation) of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station.
Rima was from Balijuri Panditpara in Madarganj Upazila.
She was a fourth-year honours student in the English department at Jamalpur Government Ashek Mahmud College.
Nazmul said police were alerted through the national emergency service 999 on Friday night after a foul smell was reported coming from the house.
He said the room rented by Rima was locked from the inside.
Police then called the Jamalpur Fire Service for assistance in gaining entry to the room.
Rima was found dead inside, Nazmul said.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Jamalpur Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
