Khilkhet Police Station OC Shamim Hossain told bdnews24.com that Bulbul, also a witness in the ongoing war crimes trial against former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Ghulam Azam, filed the case on Tuesday without naming anyone.
Police on Saturday recovered the body of Miraz Ahmed, 50, from the east of the Khilkhet-Kuril flyover in the early hours of Sunday. The autopsy report said Miraz was strangled.
Bulbul had testified against Azam on Oct 5 last year as the 14th prosecution witness at the International Crimes Tribunal-1.
The eminent lyricist has sought the Prime Minister’s intervention seeking safety for himself and his family.
About filing the case after three days of his brother’s death, OC Hossain said family complexities and emotional problems after the death had deferred the lodging of a police complaint.
He said there were no legal complexities over the case.
According to case details, the deceased started for his Dhanmondi office around 10am on Saturday from his Pallabi residence.
Miscreants are believed to have murdered him on the way between 10:30am and 12:50pm and dumped his body under the flyover.
Miraz was murdered in a planned way, the case alleges.
Bulbul had testified that before his eyes, the Pakistani army took away police officer Shiru Mia and his son Kamal, along with 37 others, from Brahmanbaria jail for killing.
He said he had later heard that all the 39 had been killed at Koiratola on that November night, which happened to be the night of Eid-ul-Fitr in 1971.
Wahidul Alam Junu, who had deposed on Feb 12 as the 19th witness against Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, also died mysteriously in February.
Intelligence officials believe there is a 'systematic attempt' to terrorise the witnesses testifying against those facing war crime charges and also the organisers of the Ganajagaran Mancha movement seeking death penalty for all war criminals and a ban on the Jamaat.
