Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader said the buses, which will run on different routes across the country, will start to operate from Jun 22 and continue until three days after the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Speaking at a programme of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation or BRTC, Quader said that out of the 900 'special bus services', 466 will travel between districts and Upazilas.
"A total of 50 buses will be kept on standby at the BRTC Dhaka depot. Another 300 buses are being repaired for long-haul services."
Speaking at the BRTC programme, he came down hard on the state-owned entity saying it has a 'very bad reputation.'
"The government provides BRTC with whatever it needs and gets nothing in return, how is this possible?"
