Ad-din Medical Hospital College is going to "pay Tk 8 million" in compensation to each of the families of six newborns who died at its facility.
The compensation amount was determined through joint discussions between the families and hospital authorities, said Shishir Manir, a lawyer representing the hospital.
Speaking to reporters at the Supreme Court on Sunday, Shishir said other benefits and support measures previously announced by the hospital would remain in place as well.
He added that each family had already been paid Tk 1 million.
Responding to a question, Shishir said Ad-din Hospital had sought 48 hours from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to respond to a show-cause notice issued over the deaths.
The health directorate has asked the hospital to explain why its licence should not be revoked over allegations of negligence linked to the deaths of the six newborns.
Shishir said the hospital had requested time until Jun 9 to submit its response and wanted to present its explanation in person through legal counsel.
