Ekattor Television has dismissed its Head of News Shakil Ahmed and Principal Correspondent Farzana Rupa.

Ekattor Media Limited made the decision on Aug 8, 2024, and a copy of the order was circulated on social media on Wednesday.

Shafique Ahamed, director of operations at Ekattor TV, told bdnews24.com on Wednesday, "Our management has unanimously reached this decision. The HR department will formally notify them."

Abdul Kader and Abdul Hannan Masud, coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, sent a letter to the acting president and acting general secretary of the National Press Club on Aug 10.

The letter included a list of 50 journalists, alleging their support for police and the ruling party and accusing them of committing 'crimes against humanity' against students.

Names of Shakil and Rupa, who are married to each other, appeared on the list, and the student movement leaders have called for a ‘ban’ on these journalists.
