A content creator, who was named in several cases over drug and theft charges, has been beaten to death after allegedly being picked up from his home in Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in Shimrail village of Mehari union of the Upazila, said Kasba Police chief (OC) Nazneen Sultana.

The deceased was identified as Md Din Islam (30), son of Shafiqul Islam of the village.

He used to run a Facebook page called “Talaash Crime Drishti”.

Relatives said footage of alleged drug trafficking was being circulated from that page for several days.

A group of people picked up Din Islam in the morning, police said, adding that he was beaten up and then dumped on the bank of a river in Cumilla.

Later, he was rescued and taken to Kasba Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Family members called the national emergency service number “999” and reported the matter.

Describing the murder as planned, his father Shafiqul Islam said Din Islam in a Facebook post on Feb 22 named who could be responsible if he was attacked or even killed.

Shafiqul alleged that the suspects murdered his son to “avenge the release of videos featuring criminals including drug dealers” over the past few days.

OC Nazneen Sultana told bdnews24.com that an investigation was under way to identify the killers.

There was a conflict between Deen Islam and a gang in the area, she said. Din Islam was named in 10 cases in and outside Kasba.

Claiming to have known about Din Islam "writing on narcotics", Brahmanbaria District Police chief Shah Md Abdur Rouf said the criminals would be identified quickly and brought to justice.

The body was sent to the District Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem.
