A woman injured in a road crash involving the vehicle of State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari in Bogura’s Shibganj has died in hospital.

Firoza Begum, 60, passed away at TMSS Medical College Hospital around noon on Friday, Shibganj Police Station chief (OC) Shahinuzzaman said.

The incident occurred around 9am in the Gopinathpur area of the Mokamtala-Joypurhat road.

Police and local residents said Bari was travelling from Dhaka to his Joypurhat-2 constituency when Firoza suddenly came in front of the motorcade.

The state minister’s car swerved in an attempt to avoid her, lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch, police said.

Firoza was taken to TMSS Medical College Hospital with injuries, where she later died.

Police said the state minister suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Firoza was the wife of the late Nizam Uddin of Gopinathpur village in Shibganj Upazila’s Kichak Union.

After the accident, Bari and his wife continued towards Joypurhat in another vehicle, OC Shahinuzzaman said.
