Army chief has no Facebook account, public urged to ignore fake profiles

Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman has no plans to operate any such account in the future, says ISPR

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said Chief of Army Staff Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman does not have a personal Facebook or any other social media account, urging people not to be misled by “fake accounts” created in his name.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, the military’s media wing confirmed that Gen Waker has no intention of operating any such accounts in future.

“Recently, several fake profiles have been opened on social media in the name of the Bangladesh Army chief. These profiles have been spreading misleading information,” the statement read.

The ISPR urged the public not to be misled by information from these fake accounts.

It added that authorities are working to identify those behind the deception and pursue legal action.
