Miscreants have cut off the wrists of a man in Khulna’s Batiaghata, police say.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Darogar Bhita Ali Nagar, Batiaghata Police chief Khandakar Hafizur Rahman said.

The miscreants went to the victim’s house and called him out before severing his wrists, according to police.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Akter Hossain, who works at a local hotel, is undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

Akter told journalists that he was called out of his home by some acquaintances on Tuesday morning. Upon reaching Darogar Bhita, four to five people allegedly kicked him to the ground and began chopping at his hands. The attackers fled when his screams drew local residents to the scene.

Bappa Raj, a junior consultant in KMCH’s Orthopedic Department, said Akter’s left hand was severely injured.

Hafizur confirmed that four of Akter’s acquaintances were involved in the attack. No case has been filed yet.
