Amid heightened security in country’s airports, the Shahjalal International Airport authorities have imposed new restrictions on the visitors and asked all passengers not to bring more than one visitor with them.

The restrictions came into force on Saturday, just a day after one person was killed in a bomb blast at a roundabout outside the main entrance of the airport.
Forensic experts said the bomb was strapped to the unidentified person’s body, but Dhaka’s top police official said that it exploded in a trolley bag the person was carrying. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police chief also ruled out the blast as an attempt of a suicide attack.
Director of the airport Kazi Iqbal Karim told bdnew24.com that “the restriction has been imposed as part of the enhanced security measures".
He also said that Bangladesh would receive a good number of foreign guests who will be attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting scheduled for Apr 1-5 in Dhaka.
“The new measures will help facilitate their arrival and departure from the airport,” he added.
Meanwhile, after Friday evening’s bomb blast outside the airport, the number of armed police battalion or APB personnel guarding the airport, has been doubled.
“Metal detecting archways have been installed on the pavement. Whoever coming to the airport is being screened thoroughly before letting him/her into the airport,” said APB commander in charge of the airport security Rashedul Islam.
