The younger daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a condolence message from London on Friday said, “Baby Maudud was very close to our family. She loved me as her younger sister.”

bdnews24.com’s Social Affairs Editor died at a Dhaka hospital in the afternoon after a long battle with cancer at the age of 66.

Baby Maudud was a university friend of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Rehana’s elder sister.

The journalist played an important role in editing the unfinished memoirs of Bangabandhu.

In a condolence message, the prime minister said, "In her death, I have lost a dear and old friend."

Beginning her career as a journalist in 1967, Baby Maudud worked for the Daily Sangbad, Ittefaq, BSS, and Weekly Bichitra before joining bdnews24.com.

She wrote regularly on different publications and published several books, mostly for children.
