Treasury bench lawmaker Rafiqul Islam Jamal has demanded a ban on the politics of parties opposing Bangladesh's independence, without naming any specific party or organisation.
Participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget in parliament on Monday, he also criticised religion-based politics.
The Jhalakathi-1 MP said, "This party was against the independence of this country in 1971. It opposed the birth of Bangladesh.
“I will demand in the House that their politics be banned in Bangladesh like that of the fascists."
Referring to the “use of religion” in political activities and election campaigns, MP Jamal further said the party, which is engaged in politics "in the pretext" of Islam, was against the independence of the country in 1971.
However, no one countered his statement.
