Rehab centre director, staffer arrested for ‘illegally possessing’ firearm in Cumilla

Detectives have arrested the director and an employee of a drug rehabilitation center in Adarsha Sadar Upazila of Comilla allegedly for the illegal possession of a foreign firearm and bullets. 

They were booked in a raid in Ghoramara on Friday morning, said Comilla District Police Detective Branch (DB) chief Md Shamsul Alam Shah.

The arrestees are Md Shariful Islam Bhuiyan alias Sunny, 42, and Ashraful Islam Akash, 32, and, both hailing from Cumilla city.

Sunny is the director of “Jotner Maya Madokashokti Niramoy Kendra”.

In primary interrogation, the duo revealed that they kept a foreign pistol, three magazines and eight bullets in a bag hidden in a mobile tower in the area.

They were subsequently charged in an arms case. A court sent them to jail in the afternoon.
