A damaged mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the grounds of Kalaroa Upazila Parishad in Satkhira has been torn down by a group of hammer-wielding men.

Witnesses said two young men arrived late on Thursday night and placed floral wreaths at the damaged mural. In response, several youths returned on Friday and smashed what remained of the mural.

Videos of the incident have since circulated on social media. One clip shows two men placing flowers at the site in the dead of night. Locals were able to identify one of them, but the other remains unrecognised.

Another video shows several men arriving on Friday afternoon, with one of them using a large hammer to completely demolish the mural.

Kalaroa Police Station chief Saiful Islam confirmed the incident, saying: “Two people came late at night. One placed flowers while the other filmed on a mobile phone. However, no arrests have been made.”

Upazila administrator (UNO) Md Zahurul Islam said the mural was already broken and that there were plans to replace it with a map of Kalaroa.
