The bodies of a husband, his wife and their domestic helper, with all their throats slit, have been found at a house in Sylhet city.
The bodies were recovered from House No. 111 in the Mitali Residential Area of Raynagar on Wednesday morning, said Mohammad Saiful, deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (North).
The dead were identified as Abdus Sattar, 90, his wife Malu Begum, 76, and their domestic helper Tahmina.
DC Saiful said, “After receiving the news, Kotwali Police chief Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir reached the scene with his team. More details can be provided later.”
After visiting the scene, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim said: “When informed, police went to the scene and recovered the bodies of three people from the house.
“Preliminary findings suggest that they may have been attacked with a sharp weapon, but no weapon was immediately found at the scene.”
“The cupboards and wardrobes inside the house were found open. Police suspect that gold jewellery or other valuables may have been stolen from there.”
He said, “The tenants on the fourth floor said they heard screams and shouting in the morning. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and special police teams are working together to investigate the incident. The criminals will be identified quickly with the help of modern technology and information.”
“Police are investigating all possibilities, including robbery, family disputes and existing enmity. A deed was also recovered from the scene. That is also being examined with importance.”
The police commissioner said, “Police are investigating whether there is any connection between the killings and a robbery. Special police teams are working at the scene.”
He urged anyone with information about the incident to inform police.
