Three people have been killed and two others injured in a road crash in Brahmanbaria when a pickup van hit an autorickshaw carrying a family.
The accident took place around 8:30am on Friday near Biyalishhar of Ramrail Union along the Cumilla–Sylhet Highway, said Khatihata Highway Police chief Md Abu Taher.
Among the dead were passenger Josna Begum, her son Ashraful, and autorickshaw driver Mahbub, with the latter two identified only by their first names.
Josna's husband Kawsar, 50, and their 4-year-old daughter Adiba, who were also in the vehicle, sustained injuries and have been referred from Brahmanbaria General Hospital to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
The family is from Bahadurpur village in Mulgram Union of Kasba Upazila.
Police said Kawsar had set out from Kasba in the morning with his wife and children, heading towards Sarail-Bishwaroad, when a fish-laden pickup van struck the autorickshaw from behind.
All occupants were seriously hurt and three were pronounced dead after being taken to the district Sadar hospital.
Officer Taher said police were sent to the scene after receiving the report, but the pickup driver and assistant made off immediately after the collision and have not been detained.
