A truck has crashed into a battery-powered three-wheeler, locally known as a Mithila, in Nilphamari's Domar Upazila, killing four members of a family and leaving two others critically injured.
The crash occurred around 3:30pm on Sunday at Ekbot on the Jaldhaka-Domar regional road, Domar Police chief Md Habibullah Habib said.
The victims were identified as Mithila driver Parimal Barman Roy, 40; Pratima Barman Roy, 30; wife of Parimal's younger brother Pradip Barman Roy; and Pratima's two children, Bipasha Barman Roy, 8, and Jadab Barman Roy, 4.
Pratima's 4-year-old twin, Namrat Barman Roy, and another passenger Shahidul Islam, 40, suffered serious injuries.
They were taken to Domar Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated, said Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Raihan Bari.
Police, citing survivors and witnesses, said the family was travelling to a wedding in Moraler Danga of Boragari union when a truck travelling from Jaldhaka towards Domar lost control and rammed the three-wheeler from behind before veering off the road.
The family was on its way to a wedding feast when the crash claimed the four lives.
Firefighters and police recovered the victims and rushed the injured to hospital.
"We sent my wife and our three children with my elder brother to attend a wedding. Within moments, everything was over," Pradip said through tears.
"I lost my wife and two children together, while my other child is fighting for life in hospital. I don't know how I will live with this grief."
The truck driver and his helper fled the scene, and legal proceedings are under way, police said.
